Humanitarian Parole is a process by which the United States may admit an otherwise inadmissible immigrant into the country for humanitarian reasons or other significant benefit to the public. This process has been used extensively throughout the years, most recently in the cases of immigrants fleeing war-torn areas of the world such as Afghanistan and Ukraine, where folks could not necessarily await the processing of normal visa applications due to the deteriorating security conditions within their countries. Though these are but two examples, the Khan Law Firm has helped many clients successfully file for Humanitarian Parole to admit their family members from all over the globe.
To file for Humanitarian Parole, the immigrant or their sponsor may fill out form I-131 on their behalf, requesting the immigrant be admitted to the United States. Then, the immigrant’s sponsor must complete form I-134, detailing the financial means they will use to ensure the immigrant will be taken care of upon arrival. Further, successful applications for Humanitarian Parole will also include evidence of the reason the immigrant should be paroled into the United States and for how long, any evidence of their attempts to secure a visa, any evidence of pending immigration applications (such as forms I-130 or I-360), documentation of the immigrant’s identity, and evidence of their sponsor’s identity and immigration status.
If successful, Humanitarian Parole permits an immigrant to live and work in the United States through the duration of their grant of parole. During this time, the immigrant may also explore other options that may be applicable to their circumstance, such as asylum, adjustment of status, or even re-parole.
